Contraband 2 – Los Angeles

Here’s a couple of photos of brand new canvas that are currently on their way to LA for Black Apple Art‘s Contraband 2 show that opens August 8th as well as a few progress shots from inside the spray booth. The image was originally commissioned by a private print collectors group and will be turned into a screen print edition soon that unfortunately won’t go on general sale. BUT, I will be following this image up with a similar release very soon that will go on general release for everyone else in November, so if you’re liking the flavour, fear not.

This is the screen print artwork, currently sitting at 8 colours but we might reduce that to 7 and print the geometric shapes in a gloss varnish. The exciting thing for me about this print is the amount of testing, playing and proofing that will need to be done to experiment and see what we can get from it.

Here’s a peek at some of the steps that went into bringing the Summoning 1 painting into being. The canvas is 800 x 1200mm and I used Harris Moore‘s superfine cotton. Tasty.

There will be 3 paintings in total, haven’t gotten round to the third yet which will be in the same colours as the print artwork. Knowing that the two above will hang beside each other at the Contraband 2 show, I thought it’d be cool to reverse the stencils while painting no.2, making the two pieces come together nicely.

Contraband 2 opens on Friday August 8th at Riviera 31 at Sofitel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills from 7pm – 2am. I urge all you cool LA arty types to go and have a mooch around.
